How to use Your Health & Safety Guide.

Health and Safety is an important part of running any successful business. All employers have a legal obligation and responsibility to look after the health and safety of their employee, workers and others who may carry out work on behalf of the company. will help you cover all of this and more.

Health and safety is one of the most mocked and misunderstood subjects.  It is frequently used as an excuse (see the Myths we have included on many of the pages in this guide).  Pubs banning confetti on the grounds of health and safety (really, they just didn’t want to do the clearing up). Customers being refused a coffee with a child’s meal deal on the grounds of health and safety (a purely commercial decision). A council refusing to collect litter from a verge due to health and safety regulations. (Yes, councils must protect their workers, but there is no health and safety legislation preventing litter collection).

As a result of this, and also of over-zealous interpretation of the legislation (no conkers in the school playground!) health and safety has become devalued in the eyes of many.

But the UK workplace is so much safer than it used to be.  Far fewer death, injuries and illnesses occur because of the health and safety legislation we have.

It is true, however, that those new to the H&S world need to brace themselves in preparation for the journey through the rules, regulations and information. has been written to make this journey simpler, to make sure you have a system bespoke to your organisation which is easily followed and implemented. It covers the day-to-day issues that can arise, as well as showing you how to navigate the big stuff and get it right.
