3. Workstations
What can go Wrong> Anyone who sits in one place for more than an hour at a time risks developing the catchily-named Work-Related Upper Limb Disorders (WRULDs).
This term has replaced the term Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) as it had become assumed that harm mostly occurred to hands, wrists and forearms.
The broader scope of WRULD covers damage caused to the neck, shoulders, back, arms, wrists or hand by staying in one position for too long over prolonged periods.
The long term prognosis of these injuries can, in some instances, result in retirement on the grounds of ill-health. Assessing how a worker sits at a workstation will nip these problems in the bud, (unless of course the worker has been sitting incorrectly for years).
