5. Other Workers: Sub-Contractors, Freelancers, Casual, Temporary
Every organisation has a responsibility to make sure that all those conducting work on its behalf understand the health and safety rules by which they must abide.
And “everyone” means exactly that – absolutely everyone!
If you take on seasonal workers, use casual labour, employ agency staff and/or use subcontractors, they must also know and understand the health and safety rules. Sub-contractors There is often confusion over what this term means.
So, to make it absolutely clear: a subcontractor is an individual or company who carries out work in the name of another contractor.
Imagine you run a small building company.
You employ your own bricklayers and carpenters, but do not employ plumbers, electricians or decorators.
You have assessed and approved a local plumbing company...
