2. Driver Categories

When deciding on how to manage the health and safety of drivers at work, it is important to work out what categories of driver the organisation is responsible for.

We have put together a table (below) to make sure you get this right. Category Definition Company car drivers Employees who have been allocated a leased vehicle as part of their terms of employment.

Drivers using their own vehicles “grey drivers” Employees who use their own vehicles for work and who receive an allowance and/or expenses as part of their terms of employment. Named drivers Relative or acquaintance of employees who are insured to use the vehicle, whether a leased company vehicle or the Driver own vehicle. Company representatives Employees who drive company-owned or hired vehicles...
