You will come across the following phrase a number of times throughout this guide – risk assessments are the foundation of a good health and safety system. Risk assessments are a wonderful tool and can be used to give a clear-eyed analysis of how to deal with any hazard. HAZARD – anything with the potential to cause harm RISK – the likelihood of that harm occurring and the possible severity of that harm You will definitely require a general driving risk assessment, and it is possible that you will require additional risk assessments for individual drivers, e.g. newly-qualified drivers, drivers with an underlying health condition etc. To find out more about conducting risk assessments, go to the section entitled (obviously!)
