7. Electricity at Work
The main legislation relating to electrical testing activities is the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
Regulation 4(3) requires that work on or near to an electrical system ‘shall be carried out in such a manner as not to give rise, so far as is reasonably practicable, to danger’ The Company should ensure all electrical installations and equipment (including portable equipment) used by the Company are tested and inspected in compliance with statutory requirements and codes of practice.
This means that electrical work must be completed by a suitably qualified electrician. Like anything, electrical systems and circuits are subject to deterioration, ageing and general wear and tear, and electrical tests should be conducted at regular intervals.
